November 16 - 24, 2019
As the first display at CCA Books space we present Juliao Sarmento’ s‘Racial Makeup’ , which was published as CCA Artists Book Series in 1997, together with Sarmento’s catalogues/publication collections from CCA
Kitakyushu Library.
CCA Books started as an extension project of CCA Kitakyushu’ s publication program, and opened the online shop and the space in Tatsuno, Hyogo in Japan last July. The online bookshop is literally a bookshop, where you can
buy book.
CCA Books space in Tatsuno aims to be a platform to experiment art, book and CCA Kitakyushu Library. Today the meaning of book transcends traditional areas and continues to expand the stages from paper to digital
format, the internet, and sound. CCA Books explores the concept and the possibilities regarding ‘book’ and archive by using this space. The one of the main activities is collaboration with artists, as CCA has presented in CCA
Artists Book Series. CCA Kitakyushu Library has collected books of contemporary art and culture since it started 1997, focusing on exhibition catalogues and artists’ monographs. We will quote and utilize CCA Library Collection for CCA Books future project from time to time.
Tatsuno is a old castle town, and in a certain area there are lines of traditional Japanese architectures and residences with fine Koshi-Mado (windows of wooden latticework). CCA Books was renovated from one of those residencies located in the area of Important Preservation Districts for Group of Historic Buildings by the government.
In addition, CCA has just started a project at Ishigaki islands, one of the southern islands of Okinawa, Japan. Ishigaki is 1950 km away from Tokyo, and only 319 km away from Taiwan - the island with the beautiful coral sea, star-filled sky and an abundance of nature.
CCA will keep posted the projects at the satellite spaces in Tatsuno and Ishigaki through Instagram/Twitter.
